The speaker for the Good Leadership Breakfast online this Friday describes himself: “I’m a corporate type during the week, but I love the get your hands dirty type of sports on the weekends.” Ray Kowalik, the CEO of Burns & McDonnell, will share his insights on the theme: How Accountability Improves with the Feeling of Ownership. He’s probably the most qualified leader I know to chime in on this subject – Burns & McDonnell is one of the most successful employee-owned firms in the world. They eat accountability for breakfast.

Sharing success habits

I first met Ray during the research phase of the How Goodness Pays book project, more than 4 years ago. We have a modern relationship…a friendship that’s 100% virtual. So, it’s no big deal that we’ve been forced out of a ballroom and into a TV studio to produce the 2021 Good Leadership Breakfast Series.

The best part of coaching executives is sharing the success habits from leaders like Ray Kowalik, with other leaders like you. Here are some of the questions I’ll be asking Ray in our new Q&A TV format:

  • The employee-owned culture really helps with the “commitment” part of running a professional services firm – what signals do you look and listen for to know commitment is healthy?
  • If I interviewed your executive team, what do you think they would tell me about how you run that team?
  • What do you think companies who are not engineering firms, nor employee-owned, can learn about accountability from Burns & McDonnell?

You can help shape the content of the meeting by participating in this one-question survey. YES or NO: The members of my team actively help each other succeed. The question comes from the Good Leadership Team Momentum Survey, which measures the alignment, commitment, and accountability of executive teams.

Growing together

The new “broadcast” version of the breakfast has allowed people to experience the goodness pays message in every corner of the US. With each new speaker and sponsor, the circle just keeps expanding. Feel free to share this blog with anyone, anywhere who you think will benefit from an inspirational message that helps push back the “Dark Noise.” Because the world needs good leaders like you to spread goodness. See you Friday!
