Many leaders talk about culture. Fewer leaders connect culture to business performance in a way people can see, measure, and sustain.
That’s why I am looking forward to the October 9 Good Leadership Breakfast with Kelly Hansen, Senior Vice President of People & Culture at Veit, and Tim Reimann, President of Veit. Their partnership offers a valuable example of healthy accountability in action, where leadership, culture, safety, communication, and business results reinforce one another.
What stands out about this conversation is the combination of perspectives. Kelly leads people, culture, safety, marketing, payroll, human resources, and business development. Tim leads the overall business. Together, they share responsibility for building an organization where people thrive together, and performance follows.
Culture Is a Business Decision
Many organizations treat culture as a separate initiative. A leadership retreat. An engagement survey. A set of values posted on a wall. Kelly and Tim take a different approach.
Kelly’s decades of HR and organizational leadership allow her work to focus on strengthening talent, improving processes, creating clear employee value propositions, and building a safety-first culture. One of the elements that makes her leadership effective is connecting those activities directly to healthy accountability.
Healthy accountability exists when people understand what success looks like, take ownership of commitments, support one another, and stay focused on meaningful results. Culture becomes stronger because expectations are clear. Performance improves because people know where they are headed and why their work matters.
Since becoming president in 2020, Tim has partnered with Kelly to lead Veit through a period of remarkable growth, doubling the company’s size while advancing safety, employee well-being, client experience, operational excellence, and technology innovation.
“Tim and I both place a high value on keeping employees, clients, and business partners informed about goals, performance, and continuous improvement efforts,” shared Kelly in the pre-breakfast planning. “The commitment to clarity and support is the foundation for how accountability grows here at Veit.”
Healthy Accountability Grows
My goal for every breakfast is simple: provide ideas that leaders can apply immediately – with inspiration to try new things.
Here’s the message for the October breakfast: The organizations producing the strongest results rarely separate culture from performance. They understand that healthy accountability serves as the connection point. People know what matters. Leaders follow through. Teams grow stronger together.
