Nothing significant ever happens alone. In other words: the #1 reason entrepreneurs stall is the failure to build a team who can lift the business to the next level. Today, I am savoring the time spent with a collection of gifted colleagues we had gathered for a training retreat last week. We are building around us.

A leap of faith

Last week, as daylight crept above the horizon of Gull Lake in northern Minnesota, I inhaled the promise of a new day. The “promise” was in the investment Melinda and I are making in building a team. The “new day” is about many years to come.

The mission of our enterprise is to “spread goodness through leadership and business.” To make that mission come alive, it needs to be bigger than “Paul Batz.” So, we selected the six best and brightest coaches/facilitators we’ve met since starting the business nearly six years ago. The purpose of the retreat was to train them to help us spread goodness faster.

Staring at the steam rising from the lake I wondered: “where might the energy of this retreat go?” I know where I hope it will go…but that also means I have to “let go, to let grow!”

What’s a goodness badge?

The Good Leadership Training program helps good leaders learn to radiate goodness.

The highest compliment for any good leader is when someone says: “You radiate goodness!” Two of the coaches – Peter and Amy – are helping us launch the first-ever Good Leadership Training program on September 18.

It’s a program based on the powerful senior executive leadership tools we use in one-on-one coaching. The magic in this program is a peer-coaching strategy which will help 24+ leaders lift each other to the next level of their leadership.

Peter and Amy are terrific role models of the content around Blending the Seven Fs: faith, family, finances, fitness, friends, fun and future into their leadership. And how to make good leadership decisions based on the Cornerstones of Goodness: excellence, generosity, fairness and positivity.

Where’s the team headed?

An African proverb says: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. One of the facilitators flew in from Pennsylvania – another intends to take this program with her to California. As the goodness movement continues to grow, we expect to increase participation in Good Leadership Training and other mission-oriented programs like the Good Leadership Breakfast Series. We hope you are interested in learning how you can get involved.

Good leaders invest in building a team of people around them who make everyone better. And they let go, so they can let grow!
