HealthPartners CEO, Andrea Walsh Good Leadership Breakfast Speaker on May 15

Minnesota often shows up in national headlines for two health care giants – Mayo Clinic in Rochester for research and care, and UnitedHealth Group for insurance. There is another organization worth watching – HealthPartners. It’s a rare and remarkable consumer-governed, independent care group and health plan with a long record of strong outcomes and community trust.

On May 15, the Good Leadership Breakfast welcomes Andrea Walsh, President and CEO of HealthPartners.

HealthPartners started in Minnesota as a consumer-governed health plan built around the belief that care and coverage work better when people have a voice. Over time, the organization grew into an integrated system combining health plans, clinics, hospitals, and community partnerships with a clear focus on affordability and trust.

Exceptional Teamwork

HealthPartners is 28,000 colleagues working together across Minnesota and western Wisconsin serving millions of members and patients. Andrea has been their leader as the CEO since 2017.

I know her as a courageous collaborator, an eternal optimist, and calm under pressure. Those traits matter for creating a culture of healthy accountability in health care today. During her tenure, she has led through challenges familiar to every health system leader today:

  • A global pandemic which tested capacity, safety, and trust
  • Workforce shortages and burnout across clinical and non-clinical roles
  • Rising cost pressure while staying committed to affordability
  • Growing demand for mental health and community-based care
  • The ongoing work of strengthening health equity and access across diverse populations

Her career path explains why she leads the way she does. Her work as a private practice lawyer drew her into policy work with the Minnesota Department of Health, where she served as Assistant Commissioner. During that time she led conversations about health reform efforts tied to what is known today as MinnesotaCare. She joined HealthPartners as corporate counsel leading legal, compliance, and public affairs.

At the Good Leadership Breakfast on May 15, I will interview Andrea about:

  • How she cultivates a culture of healthy accountability across a complex system
  • How HealthPartners creates exceptional teamwork at scale
  •  How she maintains trust with 28,000 colleagues

When you attend the Good Leadership Breakfast on May 15, you will collect new insights from a really good leader. Andrea Walsh radiates goodness!

I look forward to hosting the conversation.
