Seven Fs Gone Wild

Ever had the feeling that you need a vacation to recover from your vacation? We just came back from our 20th year at uncle Bob’s Cabin “up at the Lake.”

The Moen Family, 20th Year Anniversary at Uncle Bob's Cabin

Here’s a quick synopsis of our seven day, Seven Fs Gone Wild Wisconsin adventure.

Uncle Bob's Cabin

Faith: With sunrises and sunsets that take your breath away and peaceful dock time to ponder our blessings over the past 20 years; we are so grateful.

Family: From Grandpa Dick who is 83 down to his great granddaughter Sophie is just barely 2, we hosted a total of 18 people in between, including our South African Rotary exchange student Debbie. We celebrated in custom-designed What Really Works tee shirts.

Finances: Uncle Bob demonstrates how a frugal, fiscally responsible lifestyle can a) build a happy home, b) raise great kids, c) finance a summer home that fulfills his dreams and d) retire at age 55. He sets the example of how money funds his priorities.

Uncle Bob's Omelet Day is the opposite of Fitness

Fitness: Ahem…the Moen girls walked every day. The rest of us relied on the gentle motion of the lake and our trips up and down the stairs to work off a small percentage of the 10,000 calories a day we ate and drank.

Friends: Lisa’s boyfriend Gordon and exchange student Debbie expanded the circle this year.

Fun: Debbie learned to water ski, go Tubin’, chase toddlers, body paint, play Partini and build artwork out of broken glass. The rest of us just ate, drank, golfed, laughed, floated, sunbathed and tried to sleep it all off.

Exchange Student Debbie learned to Water Ski and mastered Tubing

Future: With Debbie traveling 9047 miles from the southern tip of South Africa, we’re feeling pretty darn good about showing her what “up North” really means. At the very least we helped each other expand our international understanding: she showed Grampa Dick and Grandma Pat pictures of her home town, Port Elizabeth, on my iPad. And we fantasized about how lucky we would all be if she could experience Seven Fs Gone Wild in Wisconsin again someday, with her own family.
