What are you doing with today?

Two inspiring funerals within 24 hours, left my asking the question: What are you doing with today?

Melinda and I came home from a week “up at the lake” excited to jump back into our lives. By the end of the day Monday, we learned of two deaths inside our circle of friends. So, within 24 hours, on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, we reshuffled our schedules to help bury two vibrant women.

The first was a recently married 28 year old, who was rocking the world with her radiant energy. The next was a fifty-something wife and mother who was fighting a faithful battle with cancer. It’s easy to wonder why did they leave us so early?

Paul at Good Leadership Breakfast
The closing comments at the Good Leadership Breakfast in August were “Carpe Diem: spread goodness today!

Both funerals were joyous.  They stamped a message on my heart I carried forward in my closing remarks at the Good Leadership Breakfast.  Watch here.

Sometimes the most powerful messages are the most simple: one thing we all have in common is the fact that we are aging!  Twenty-eight or 58, time marches on. What are you doing with today?

Too often I find myself living in the future.  When I was 28 years old, I was preoccupied with becoming 30 years old…because I was convinced being 30 meant more “credibility” in the business world. In the midst of that reflection I was hit by this simple notion:

We are so fascinated with “greatness” in our society. Greatness can only be achieved by a body of work over time – for 99% of the people on earth “greatness” is a concept in the future.

But we can all radiate goodness today!  The path to greatness is paved by good leaders like you and me radiating goodness today and everyday.  So why not radiate goodness today?

Mug with Coffee I have chosen to rally around the mantra: Carpe Diem in our business. It means Seize the Day.  But it can also mean…radiate goodness today!

Good leaders make a habit of finding inspiration in the rich and full lives of people we admire. And we use those lessons as a reminder to radiate goodness.  Carpe Diem: what are you doing with today?

Please share with us: whose life inspires you to make the most of today?[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
