Good Leader, Hollywood Moment

When was the last time you wanted to pinch yourself? You know – one of those ‘Am I really here?’ Hollywood-style moments

Fabulous birthday foresome: Joe, Paul, Ben and Joseph Otting

Meet Joseph Otting, a client and friend: this past Sunday, March 28, he hosted my son Ben, my friend Joe and me for golf at the prestigious Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. It’s a grand place, where half of the holes we could literally use the “HOLLYWOOD” sign as our aiming target. Pinch. In the shadows of Paramount Studios, one couldn’t help but imagine the days when the epic stars once strolled these same fairways. Pinch again. I almost birdied (par :0 ) the famous hole where Howard Hughes once landed his plane on the fairway. Third pinch.

Good leaders like Joseph Otting routinely go out of their way to make others feel good about themselves. Those ‘pinch me’ moments become currency in the form of extra special loyalty and commitment. Joseph and I are working on important things together — things we believe will make a significant difference for businesses and families across the land. When we spend time together we push and prod each other – challenging assumptions, checking our thoughts and beliefs, questioning how we spend our time, and asking the question: How do we know we are doing any good? It’s the kind of thing that makes my life’s work ‘pinchable.’

Joseph Otting hosted a Hollywood-style golfing birthday

Joseph Otting is a successful Fortune 100 executive with a travel schedule that would spin most of us upside down. Lord knows how many ways he could have chosen to spend his Sunday. Joe Martinez, Ben Batz and I won’t ever forget how he made us feel that day, while we were aiming our Drivers at the HOLLYWOOD sign. Especially because it was my 47th birthday. Pinch again.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
