Michael Anschel ‘good crazy’ adventurer and entrepreneur. Come hear him speak at the Good Leadership Breakfast this Friday.

You gotta meet this guy. Michael Anschel is the speaker at the Good Leadership Breakfast this Friday. I hope you will join us because he’s crazy. Beautifully, amazingly, awe-inspiringly crazy.

Professionally, Michael is one of the most creative and outspoken experts on green building in the world. His company, Otogawa-Anschel Design+Build, has won more than 80 awards including the first recipient of the National Green Remodeling Chrysalis Award. He is setting the standards of excellence, generosity, fairness and positivity through design, construction and advocacy work. His firm is radiating goodness – and it pays!

What do I mean by “crazy?”

How many of us would race a Rickshaw from Burma to Pakistan? That's crazy!
How many of us would race a Rickshaw from Burma to Pakistan? That’s crazy!

When I asked Michael to share some pictures of his life outside of “work,” he flooded my inbox with a Bucket List of items for most sane people. Below you will find pictures of a Tuk Tuk race across India; Rickshaw Run from the border of Burma to the Border of Pakistan; Cormorant fishing in Southern China; Skiing in Faraya, Lebanon; hiking the Camino de Santiago from Lisbon, Portugal to Santiago, Spain; scaling Silverton Mountain – some of the most extreme terrain in North America; a thousand mile unsupported kayak race down the Yukon River and building houses in Nicaragua.

What’s really crazy?

xmas photoMichael believes it’s crazy to remodel buildings in ways that violate the health and sustainability of our planet, because we need a healthy planet to incubate more bucket- list-type adventures for crazy people like Michael to explore.

“But by far the most adventurous and challenging thing I’ve ever done is raise a family!”, he confessed with sarcasm. “It’s rewarding because we multiply the craziness together,” he laughed.

Craziness for a cause: golfing in knickers?

Michael and I will finish the Breakfast on Friday wearing our knickers! He and I are teaming to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities. It’s a fabulous Seven Fs-style fundraiser, celebrating the distinguished style of Payne Stewart (who won the US Open here in Minneapolis in 1981) – wearing knickers! With the money raised this year, we will go over one million dollars raised for the Boys and Girls Club since the first Knicker Open in 1982.

Good leaders make a habit to invest in crazy adventures that stretch our souls. And they invest their passions in cultivating excellence, generosity, fairness and positivity – because goodness pays!

Here are the photos I promised: what crazy thing do you have on your list?
