“We don’t believe in the notion of work/life balance.” This the first sentence of our signature book: What Really Works: Blending the Seven Fs to Live the Life You Imagine. Co-author Tim Schmidt and I came together around the concept of “blending.” Just like this picture, we found the stress of trying to balance our “work” and our “life” was very tricky, and exhausting. Case in point: Which side of the teeter totter do you assume is the “work” and which is the “life.” Work is life, life is work. Human beings were meant to work hard, build things, and enjoy serving others. Personally, I love my work, and I’m proud that my children have seen me enjoy working hard.
Looking forward, we are encouraging people to build their life philosophy around Seven Fs: faith, family, finances, fitness, friends, fun and future. These are things that really matter, and when we intentionally plan our time around blending several Fs together, we can leap ahead in our happiness. Use the reply form below and tell me what you think of this concept, I’d like to know.
Here’s what one person said about our book on an Amazon.com review: When Paul Batz first mentioned the Seven Fs (Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness, Friends, Fun, Future) at breakfast about a year ago, I immediately sensed an appealing mnemonic with intuitive face value. These Seven Fs are memorable and practical words.
What I like even better is the approach the co-authors took in writing this book. Rather than quote famous people or focus on personal opinion, the authors conducted extensive social research to discover the Success Habits of accomplished professionals. They have collected thousands of Success Habits through online surveys and personal interviews. The book shares “best of” Success Habits. You can also give and receive Success Habits for free @ sevenfs-dot-com.
Good leaders recognize the importance of blending the Seven Fs. They strive to have fun in every endeavor – at home or at work – and they understand how Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness, Friends, Fun and Future are all interconnected in any successful, sustainable enterprise.
